Opossums are the only North American Marsupials. They have a pouch that they use to carry their young around. They give birth to 4-24 young that are approximately the size of a grain of wild rice. The newborns spend the next 100 days with mom. They feed on insects, carrion and fruit. Opossums have a relatively short life span, living only about two years.

  • he's big i have a short tailed opossum (much smaller) and recommend one to animal lovers

  • Opossums are NOT recommended as pets.

If you are looking for an at-home animal companion, there are dozens of cjoices at local shelters waiting to be adopted.

  • Theyre mean as shit

  • If you leave them alone, they are who they are.

May I inquire as to what you did to one to make it behave "mean as s#@!" ?

  • An Opossum may live marginally longer in captivity, but its life is not full and enriched from having the freedom to roam and live its life naturally.

  • Now Im confused with the life span of opossums because some say they live 8 to 10 years and in this video it says 2 years. is this short span for the wild.

  • Per Colorado Wildlife State:

Average life span for opossums is about 16 months and rarely exceeds two years. Many are killed on highways.

  • possums are freaky

  • @jkriet They are only mean because people mess with them to much, and or they are trying to protect them self. Usually they are not though.

  • I love animals and opossums

  • I love opossum, they are beautiful

  • Thanks for the imformation guys and good video by the way. I'm not saying its good to have these as pets because after all they belong in the wild but if so happen you end up with one you cant release its a little discouragin to see such short life span. Still one of my favorite animals thowe
