Michael Martin Murphy's cowboy logic: I have to admit I'm the kind of guy that is always looking for shortcuts. Problem is they seem to take me longer than the regular routes. My dad, wanting to help me out of this dilemma, told me "son: the shortest way, is always the way you know how to get there."

My dad never said a lot, but what he said always made sense. I think of him whenever Murph sings this song, and the men like him who may not put things into fancy words or fluorescent speech; they just get the job done.

  • Thanks for your comment; good to know there are others who draw inspiration from the creed expressed in the song. One question though, what does RMB stand for? Pardon my ignorance.

  • Howdy! This is a "cute" song which ol' Murphy got the idee for from his association with real cowpunchers ,,,,, "just good, purty work!"

  • can anyone post the original from the album?

  • @doughesson i was looking for that song also but, its not on you tube

  • @rosemarie443 It's called "The Wrong Man" and the chorus goes,"Son,you're askin' the wrong man..."

  • I am looking for the song he sang with he son about women, i can not remember the title of the song, can anybody out there help me?

    thanks

  • I used to sing and play this song on the guitar all the time down at Old York, which is a little reconstructed western town in Oakman, Alabama, which is about 15 miles south of where I live when they had their festivals and trade days. I still sing it occasionally when I think about it.

  • @nacho561 The video came out 16 years or so ago.I used to drive patrol in Memphis with a tape player rolling this and "Big Iron".Needless to say,my superviser worried about me.

  • Why did you cut off the "How to tell who is the real cowboy."????

  • this is a great comment, and I must also ask, what means RBM? I saw MMM play in my hometown of prescott, AZ when I was but a lass of eleven, when he was my hero numero uno.

  • i neeed a better version o dis song like not live
