February 2006
Japan has long been accused of vote-buying and bribery at the International Whaling Commission. Already, through exploiting the loophole of 'scientific research', it has dramatically increased the number and species of whales it kills. Now, it wants to overturn the decades long ban on commercial whaling. Our offering this week uncovers just how it intends to do so. Made for ABC 4 Corners, it also reveals how the farcical rules of the IWC are open to manipulation and abuse.

  • Yeah nine hundred murdered whales later they came up with a few tibits that any intelligent none lethal researcher could have obtained.

  • Where did you get the information that the Nishun Maru had to pay all those fines?

  • @bricitybrac not on this scale, previously it was a fair fight and it only became popular in Japan after WW2 because whale meat was cheap while they had no money, i'm no supporter of greenpeace etc. but i know bullshit when i see it.

  • @basbugturkesyan Kind of like beef.

  • @createsignaccountin I smell bullsh*t.

  • Japan should just announce that it is leaving the IWC, and is no longer bound by its decisions, then send the Japanese Navy to protect the whalers.

  • @bricitybrac They probably hunt in a more sustainable way.

  • Whaling has been practiced since prehistoric times. Why shouldn't they be allowed to continue a practice that they have been doing for over 2000 years? Tribes in the USA's Pacific Northwest are allowed to whale for cultural reasons.

  • I'm with sea shepard all the way. atleast they get out there and protect marine life from being hunted in places where it's iligel to catch them. the japaness need to take look at the big picture is and not there wallets. if the world was full of people like sea shepard then this wourld wouldn't be so self destructing. as a human i am ashamed by what humans do, raping ang piliging the planet for evey last cent they can get out of it. I would love to crew on there ships. "yah for sea shepard"

  • @DSSNTC Why should they stop? The whales in question are not endangered. Just because a bunch of easily led kids think the whale is sweet to look at? Give me a break. If you want to take care of the wildlife and nature supporting SS is about the least helpful things you can do,

  • @DJmixmastermicro maybe because we control the breeding of cows, chickens... etc. oh wait maybe we should catch wales and make them have babies.............
