@swanzenswanzen I see your point, and totally agree that Steve is a master and plays GORGEOUS lines - I would love to play with that level of melodic clarity, it's almost Bach-like. But, I disagree with you on tarring all the slap bass players with the same brush! Yes it's very rhythmic and can be showy, but it's just another technique, and there are great players out there who are able to use it in a really musical way. He's talked about an obscene amount on here, but Victor Wooten is a master!

Does anybody know who's the guitarist playing that Gibson Lp Special on the video??

I love Steve Swallows playing.
First time I heard him, a Chick Corea LP from the sixties, in the seventies. And since that, I try to hear him in any record he plays.
What a concious man about the music. He is a great composer, too. And he is not a ¨jazzstar¨, just man making music.

damn thats crazy beautiful.
Mr Swallow..Is a master on the "BASS GUITAR" yes people Bass guitar..played with a copper pick..I do not care..all I hear is a beautiful melody..great knowledge of harmony..great taste..and move over slappers...you have no chance..Steve..plays and We all can understand the notes..and what the melody is..I want to puke ..whenever I hear all these Stanley Clarke wanna be..My opinion only!! Slappin' is boring!! Yes any given 12 yrs old can do it!! But Steve's melodies? You have to know MUSIC!! Thx

Lovely solo, proves that playing Bass with a pick can sometimes create amazing sounds and things.
