Our neighbor had a wood splitter that he offered to let us use. When he brought it over, I was surprised to see how he operated the thing. The engine on it had died. He had an old John Deere lawn tractor that he uses as a parts tractor. The motor on that lawn tractor is about shot, but it still runs. He devised a way to run the log splitter off of the side pulley on the John Deere tractor until he can get a new engine for the log splitter. Now, growing up on the farm, I remember using the pulley on our old H Farmall to run a buzz saw. I know people used to use pulleys to run old sawmills. This is the first that I've ever seen a system like this to run a log splitter. Pretty ingenious if you ask me. It sure works well and we're getting our wood split!
