Chrony│Inexpensive Alternate Lights for Indoor Low Light Shooting│F1 Chronograph

Inexpensive alternative light source for to the F1 Chrony. Found these Sylvania "Dot-it" LED lights at Home Depot for $5 each. Used a Neodymum magnet to hold them onto the diffusers. Works great for shooting indoors like a basement, in a garage or anywhere sunlight isn't available.

Please note that ANY florescent lighting in the same room as the Chrony will result in errors. The "flicker" of florescent lights while not visible to the eye is picked up by the Chrony sensors.

Dude, I'm glad I saw your video on YouTube. I repeated the same setup on my F1 Chrony (although I used velcro to hold the pucks instead of magnets). It's such a brilliant inexpensive solution. Many thanks for this effective money-saving tip.

@rfuret Thank you! I've been using this setup to shoot in my basement all winter and it has worked out beautifully. I did get a very small percentage of errors when using the shorter rods with the LED lights close to the photocells. I found that using the extended rods with the diffusers higher up fixed this and worked flawlessly.

@royweeks1 Thanks! I agree the Chrony light are expensive plus they need to be plugged in. I've read that they can get hot and melt the diffuser if left on too long. These LED pucks really do a great job.

dude thank you so much for the idea i was using two car head lights attached to a car battery for my indoor testing it work but it was heavy and hard to set up this is a much better deal im going to try it out once again thank you

thats excellent. i presume that battery operated LED lights have no flicker. Great i'll do this. only sad thing is i bought my chrony yesterday..today i shot it.still works though. they should improve the design and put metal plating in front of the sensor housings. i will make my own in the meantime

Great trick ! I tried it and it worked fine!

However it only worked with 2 rods on each diffuser. When i tried with 4 rods i was getting error all the time.

Also you can use rubber bands instead of magnets.

yep, i got light emiting diode lights also when they fist cam out i started useing them, incadescent light only. many years ago i made mistake of useing shop light (florescent) because of its flicker rate it messes up readings, or error 1 displays on chrony quite often or error 2
