@bonda04 and you were so, so close. turns out, you're only half right. democrats, back in those days, were of the conservative ideology, while republicans were of the liberal ideology. back in the early 1900s, when Teddy Roosevelt rejected progressivism, a split in democrats began. one side started taking the progressive liberal part, the other stayed conservative. so, if lincoln was alive today, he'd be a liberal republican, something that is oh so rare in these days.

You have to love the total ignorance and lack of education of youtube posters. @crack smokinSara - "Lincoln was a liberal, you know. He would be a ASHAMED of the Republican Party" - Jackhole - Lincoln was a "REPUBLICAN", and the Republican party was founded by anti-slavery expansion activists in 1854, it is often called the GOP (Grand Old Party). The REAL racists in this country are the Democrats. Look at your history fools. What party was George Wallace? you revisionist piece of trash,..

How and in what ways was he a liberal. Obviously your a liberal and I know he would not have anything to do with Democrat party.
-
@smokingSara Actually, Lincoln was a liberal, you know. He was a great man, and he would be ASHAMED of the official Republican Party, these days . . .

The actor playing Abraham Lincoln executed the role PERFECTLY.
-
You would like to think that Abe Lincoln was a progressive liberal like yourself. I am sure Lincoln would approve national healthcare.

"Law! I knew that book was about something."
Dialogue has improved over time, hasn't it?

@ramzilyc Dear friend, If you will listen to Abe's speech and review your history, you will see that the Whig Party was the relatively liberal party for the time -- including economic issues. "National Bank, high tariffs" Later, Abe's administration gave us Land Grant colleges, the Homestead Act, a government funded transcontinental RR, temporarily an income tax.
