What is sidechaining compression, and how do you do it in FL Studio 9? If you want to make any kind of electronic music, you should learn these things, and this quick video answers both questions. The new method of sidechaining in FL 9 is far superior to the old one, so if you're still using the old-and-busted Peak Controller method, get up to speed!

  • really good tutorial!! Thanks!!! Got one question.Lets say i want to sidechain all the instuments to the kick, can you? thanks so much!

  • @djjireh Yep, you can sidechain as many instruments to the kick as you want :)

  • -]. If ya still answering questions on this video, I would like to ask is sidechaining on a Drum n bass track a wise thing? .[-

  • @TEMPHUiBIS Well, overdoing it with the kick/bass can make it sound too rough due to the fast rhythm of the kick, but sometimes I sidechain a bit!

  • Couldn't you put the compressor in the Master and it would work for every channel? or do you not wanna do that?

  • @HYPNO5IS Nah you typically don't want to do that for sidechaining, because there are some sounds that you don't want to compress :-) I've heard some artists do it but it can sound really tacky.

  • @NostalgiaInOAB Basically turns down the volume of one sound when another gets louder. Used especially in techno/dance/house for that thumping kick- sidechaining turns down other noises like synths/bass to give the kick drum 'room' in the sound.

Gives it that throbbing sound too.

  • i mean, i know i'm no Picasso but, do you think my music would sound better if i sidechained? i have a couple of songs on my channel. i only post them as i can be sure no one will steal them because nobody wants them. i just have them posted for my own educational purposes. Should I Sidechain? or is there a problem elsewhere? thank you i subbed you!!

  • It is really rare to see someone like you to unselfishly share the knowledge and also to sound great. I also watched the video you made from where you and the other artists started and it's pretty much self explanatory how iron will and strong persistence can lead to a greater cause.

  • THANK YOU ! finally a good tutorial easy to understand :)

  • Can this be used in Rap & HipHop Beats in any way??

  • i find that fl's compressors does not compress my sounds hard enough it there another plugin/ Fx i can use?

  • Awesome, I've been wanting to learn how to do this; many thanks~

  • this was very helpful :) first tutorial i found that doesnt use the wide mixer!! that really pisses me off :) but seriously was very helpful :)

  • @zirconst Thanks a lot man. This method is awesome!!

Tell me how do i sidechain pads for instance where i don't want to hear the kick? How do i mute it then with this method...? Thx so much

  • @DaNorthernLight will then GET UP TO SPEED! DON'T USE THAT OLD-AND-BUSTED PEAK CONTROLLER!
