It is possible that the infantry "Last Post" was composed (or at least arranged) by Josef Haydn. Haydn was in London, under the patronage of King George III, at the end of the 18th century, when the decision was taken to rationalise bugle calls across the whole of the Army and Navy. The hypothesis is supported by the consideration that some of the bugle calls (such as "Reveille", "First Post", "Last Post") are musically quite complex and non-repetitive, but very well composed.
