@assm360 Strange that you'd be asking that, as the script was actually translated from the old anime version instead of the OVA, which explains why it says "2000 years of history" (from anime version) instead of "1800 years" (from manga/OVA). To answer your question, the manga started in 1983, and after becoming a hit, it got its anime adaptation in 1984.
