Continuing our visit to the Mass Ave Project, an urban farm in Buffalo, NY, Jessie Meeder demonstrates their new larger-scale aquaculture system. They scaled up to a 35,000-fish tilapia system after having success with their 2,000-fish system, profiled in another video on this channel.

  • The ropes hold a stretch of netting which sits in the water. This allows the duckweed to grow without the fish immediately eating all of it. Also, it allows the fish farmers to lift the netting out of the water to easily harvest the duckweed as needed.

  • its a good video,,,, wish i could hear more of what was being discussed but the water makes it difficult to hear,, please explain what the ropes were used for,, something in regards to the duckweed,, i couldnt see how they were being utilized,, thanks for replying ahead of time!! :)

  • Rabbits would be a nice addition to that system. Rabbit Manure for fertilizer and to add to the worm bins for compost. Excess plant material could supplement the rabbit feed. Excess rabbits could be sold for pets, meat or to other breeders.
