  • To each his own with music. I honestly liked the boat music you hated (meant to convey eerie emptiness). Also, many famous movie scores convey horror by switching to more simple scores. Consider "Jaws," "Psycho" etc.

  • @gentlerat The Psycho music was for 30 seconds or so... imagine how grating it would be across 5 minutes

  • Phantom Reviewer, I thought I heard something about some movie company going to release a version of the Lon Chaney version with all the alternate endings that they made back in 1925 in a bonus dvd. Do you know if that's true?

  • Really? It would be a major find if so, because those scenes are considered lost. But I wouldnt rule it out, after all, a number of "lost" scenes from Metropolis keep showing up over the years.

  • is the uk collecters editon still worth buying?

  • Meh... its OK. I dont like the score so much, but it has a documentary on the movie that I havent seen elsewhere. Not much collectable about it, other than that.

  • The Carl Davis score is SO much better than the other rather random score! The other simply DOES NOT fit the scenes!

  • I had the extreme displeasure of watching the version with the happy upbeat music playing through the film it ruined the whole film!

  • I have a box set of 50 classic horror movies, and the YouTube Phantom version is the one they used.

  • I got a three CD collection of ALW music and to my surprise I had a DVD of this as a bonus!

  • To each his own with music. I honestly liked the boat music you hated (meant to convey eerie emptiness).

  • @jujkuj123 That's what blew it for me, too!

  • weird i have this movie on dvd. and i bought it for a $1.00 (i think if i'm remembering right) and i'm pretty sure it's the youtube verson and it also came with the hunch back of notrdam

  • First I was a fan of the 2004 Andrew Lloyd Webber musical movie version, so I watched the Carl Davis version on TCM. For me, this blew the musical right out of the water and sealed my fate as a Chaney fanatic. LOVE this film, even if it is dated with wonky editing!

  • i just got the ultimate edition today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm watching the one with the carl davis score!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • At 0:30, that scene of The Red Death walking down those steps was not in technicolor in any editions I have seen. Has this been digitally colorised?
