"Hurtling Toward Oblivion" by Richard Swenson, "progress tempts us to assume that our world will last indefinitely. But as we face a new millennium, it becomes increasingly apparent it won't"

Surfrider is working very hard on this very issue. Just Say No to Plastics is enlightening people about using cloth shopping bags at the grocery stores instead of plastic bags. Surfrider and Coastkeeper are constantly doing beach cleanups and teach to keep all plastics out of the waterways. Cigarette butts are another hazard to sea life. Ditch your butt in a can-if you can!

GMA, covers this but when it comes to things people can actually do something about they're useless. How about the coal plant that's going up in Chaco Rio, NM, on native land. oh, that's right GMA never tackles native issue's. That might be seen as "not being cool to the greedy white man."

It does not matter what the white man does. No matter how hard he tries, it'll never be enough to please others

I'd say one of the biggest things that is preventing plastics getting recycled is that the recycling places are only accepting what they can make a profit on. Here in Montana glass & plastics are rarely recycled b/c the recycling centers are losing money when they recycle those items. Maybe the government needs to do some subsidies for recycling businesses.

maybe increase taxes on new plastic driving the cost and demand up for recycled goods for reuse. It might make it worthwhile for industry to use more. got to hit them in the wallet.
