Sorry, it's not a new video. I just needed somewhere to put this.

If your're interested, it's a video of me and SteveManly going head to head in Lord of Vermillion 2. Square Enix is adding FFXI characters to the game in March, so they gave us a Starter Pack as part of the VanaFest2010 Press Kit. We happened to see a sign for the game at Kanda station where I was staying, so we tried it out on our last day in Tokyo.

The game is played by placing cards on the lower surface. Each player uses their avatar (Player Card) and an assortment of unit cards which each have different costs/abilities/stats. The stick on the left moves your party as a group, and they automatically attack anything that enters their range (shown in glowing blue). A button on the right can be used to activate a special attack when the corresponding gauge is full.

In addition to the normal controls, the cards can be manipulated directly on the surface to fine-tune individual movements and change the direction each character is facing.

The goal is to destroy the opposing team's Arcane Stones. You can also win by eliminating all members on the other team (which is how SteveManly won). Afterwards, your avatar and each of your units gain experience and may level up. The server stores your data and you can use any machine in Japan to play Online and Local matches, or go through the game's Story Mode.

The game costs 200 yen per play, and spits out a new card at the end to add to your collection. There are also 100 yen machines that do not print a card.

  • Wow, that looks hell of a lot better than it sounds. At first I thought two bucks for an arcade match was a bit steep but that looks pretty darn good, seems to have very responsive and precise controls when it comes to the cards, honestly didn't expect that.

I'm curious, is playing the two bucks game the only way to get new cards or can you just go out and buy 'boosters'? Because it doesn't seem to be a game that requires an extensive collection anyhow, I doubt there'll be boosters.

  • @BM03 There is a separate machine that dispenses starter packs, but besides that, you only get cards from playing the game.

  • I haven't really been too upset at most of the games that never made it over here... but LoV and LoV2 really need to come to the US and go global... They would make money, kick ass, and I may just have to invest in buying one of the machines XD.

  • I miss this game...

  • SO boss! My head's gonna fall off from shaking it in desbelief and awe.

  • so the game gives you boosters? nice :P @9:12

  • Im guessing this game is underrated.

  • Always wanted to play this game...
