Pumpkin - October 1993 - December 2007

The last video I ever took of my late kitty cat, Pumpkin. I had her for fourteen of my twenty years, and I'm still adjusting to life without her. We put her down because she was fairly old (14), and suffering from feline hyperthyroidism meaning that no matter how much she ate her metabolism went so fast she never gained any weight and she had no appetite, so it was hard to find anything she'd eat. She weighed 6 pounds, had very little energy, and started to suffer from arthritis. Rather than let her suffer indefinitely I decided to put her down (this video was taken the night before), and to this day that decision remains the most difficult I've ever made. Rest in peace my baby girl...

I'm not sure a disease like that could be prevented without astronomical genetic testing. However, she did have a medication that she got once a day. Unfortunately she was old and I couldn't take her to school with me since I lived in the dorms, and I was the only one that could give her her pill reliably. She stayed home with my family and wasn't medicated the way she should be. Also the medication and testing for it was very expensive, so I guess having lots of money never hurts either.
