Ten percent of people are gay... I wish!

Just how many gay people are there in the world and why is it so damn hard to find out? I'd like to think that one in ten people are gay, but I have some serious doubts.

It is true. There are 25 million persons of the LGBT community that identify themselves as " LGBT " ... That does not include the ones who are out of the closet. There is more than 10% of the US population that are gay because usually 40% of them are not out of the closet. So get your facts straight before you make a video telling people lies.

@LoveTheCity123 All of my videos are my opinions. I researched a number of studies and based on those and my personal experience, I related my opinion. I also always ask for my viewer's opinions at the end of my videos, because I'm open to new ideas. Last time I checked, opinions weren't counted as lies, but if you feel I'm a big ol' liar then that's okay.

As for facts, there are a number of studies that have vastly different results on this issue. Some agree with your numbers, others don't.

My theory is that the vast majority of people are capable of and experience attractions to both sexes. Then there is that small minority of people that are firmly and exclusively into one gender - either 100% straight or 100% gay. The 2-10% statistic reflects only these two minorities; it doesn't begin to cover the amount of people who have the potential to find happiness in same-sex relationships, if they only dared. Sadly, yet understandably, everyone with a "choice" chooses heterosexuality.

@ryanclovis Very true. Most of the bisexual friends I knew as a teenager ended up ignoring that side and marrying into a heterosexual relationships. I suppose I can understand why, but I hope none of them turned their back on someone they loved for convenience.

I think we can't really answer this question because everyone counts being gay as something different... what about latent gays? virgins? people who have never been in a gay relationship but have feelings for the same sex? Do bisexuals and pansexuals fit in to this? If we mean the LBGT+ community do queer and trans people count to? people who are in the closet? It's all really confusing =P Personally I consider myself gender blind and I am attracted to all people regardless of gender..

I very definitely believe 10 percent is more accurate than your figure of 2%! There definitely are NOT 10% OUT gay people, however. Whether someone admits he or she is attracted to someone of his or her does not matter. They are still gay. I have been a gay person in this old world a LOT longer than you have (I could be your grandfather), and believe maybe 5% to 7% might be more accurate than your figure of 2%. Did you count the females? They seem to be able to hide it better than we males!

I'd agree around 2% are openly gay. But there will be loads more than that who have same sex attraction of some degree or another.

i have given my thought on how many there might have been. I don't think it's 10% orless. If anything, it's not so cut and dry.It's like a string, not like two culumns. So i think basically we're all moreor less Bisexual.

i dont think 10 percent of the population is gay, but if you include persons which would sometime of their life love (and i mean love) a person of the same sex the number does not seem ridiculous im my point of view
