It's a sad day in Massachusetts, when on October 5, 2011, Friendly's files for Bankruptcy, and 3 of the 4 restaurants goes out of buisness. One in Fitchburg, 2 of the 3 here in Leominster (Massachusetts).
We visit the one at The Mall at Whitney Field, which is the oldest of the four, being in the exact same spot since 1972. The second one was at Monument Square, downtown, featured prominently in many festival/downtown videos.
The one that survived closing (for now), is the mid-point between the cities, on Routes 2 and 12, Leominster.
Hopefully, this chain will not go away.

64 restaurants in the chain are closing, 30 here in Massachusetts. 2 here, and the only one in Fitchburg (John Fitch Highway), among the casualties.

  • I live in Worcester and thy shut down I think two of them? I haven't been in the other side of worcester in a while.

  • @teku11151

I'm not even aware of where they are in Worcester.

  • It's a portent of the economic hell to come when an eatery the likes of "Friendly's" or a similar establishment such as "T.G.I Friday's" files for bankruptcy due to a lack of patronage. I can only hope that the remaining institutions find a means of rebounding from this setback and can rebuild their popular chain from potential financial ruin.

This is an institution. There was a similar restaurant chain called "Brighams", and it's fate after Chapter 11, was doomed after a few years.

Friendly's is a far bigger institution, and around here, the busiest chain survived. The ones they closed here were dead most of the time, although Downtown had busy spurts.

I wager that if the quality doesn't go back up, this place is doomed.

  • @georgef551 i live in worcester, we lost one in worcester, and westboyalston, but there is still one in auburn, and holden.

  • @Balarick

You'd have to go to friendlys |dot| com, and in the upper right, enter a zip code or two, to find out.

  • @elevatorsonly

It survived. Hopefully, the chain will, but this usually isn't a good sign (can you say: Brighams"?).

  • @ElevatorsandAlarms

Go to friendlys |dot| com, and enter your zip code on the upper-right. See if it's there still.

  • @planetchris12

Fribbles are still around, just a lot fewer places to find them. A Fribble-less World is a crime.

  • @Delaypat

It used to be close to that of TGI Friday's, or Pizzeria Uno, and a LOT better than Denny's. During the last year, it went downhill. Still better than Denny's, but not by much now.

If they want to surviuve, they need to bring the quality back up with the establishments that are still in operation.
