The Tanana River passes to the south of Fairbanks and eventually joins the Yukon River, which empties into the Bering Sea at the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta. Breakup of the ice on the Tanana River is an annual event looked forward to in Fairbanks and communities all along the river. This footage was taken on May 2, 2009 from two locations in Fairbanks along Chena Pump Road - looking southwest from a hill and northeast from river level.
