This is a video of race #3 at Byron Dragway against the honda civic SI... Had a better launch even though i bogged it a little bit... car pulls really well in 1st in 2nd... But HORRIBLE in 3rd... don't know why

So i thought i raced pretty well but my times were absolutely horibble. I had 3 runs... I have an S/R with obviously iceman intake with K&N filter, 2.5" Borla Exhaust, ZXtuner Hotshot header, and Powders UDP... With all this i was hoping to break 15.0 but would've been happy with 15.0

So first run...

R/T ... .285

60 ... 2.441
330 ... 6.891
1/8 ... 10.575
MPH ... 66.44
1000 ... 13.728
1/4 ... 16.408
MPH ... 84.47

2nd run... launched the best... couldn't put the car in 3rd for like a half a second... but wouldve been my fastest run.

R/T ... .121
60 ... 2.387
330 ... 7.039
1/8 ... 10.751
MPH ... 66.59
1000 ... 13.887
1/4 ... 16.553
MPH ... 83.88

3rd run... I raced a honda civic Si... killed him with my launch, but he pulled away after 2nd gear... Raced perfect on this one except i bogged it just a little bit in the beginning on the launch

R/T ... .157
60 ... 2.544
330 ... 7.075
1/8 ... 10.762
MPH ... 66.51
1000 ... 13.913
1/4 ... 16.589
MPH ... 84.67

ANy ideas on what could help me a little bit? i need to check my plugs and wires... but anything else that anyone could think of that might improve my time? I have a fully built motor and turbo just need the accessories... but i want to see how fast i can get this thing with bolt ons first...

Thanks
-Mark

  • I laugh how people think I'm a bad driver just because the Civic SI beat me, ever think it's maybe not fair to compare a 2000 car to a year 2006 with entirely better and newer technology put into engines 6 years newer? also ever think maybe that the car wasn't running perfectly?

  • that s/r needs a real driver

  • @boneskiss LOL i think something is wrong with the car idk what though cause i whould be high 14's.... stock the S/R should run a 15.2... with Header/Exhaust/ and UDP i should be high 14's maybe 15.0

  • we are like an hour away from the track... i live in Hanover Park/ Schaumburg Area

  • D3liri0usK were you the driver of the civic and m326119 the driver of the ZX2?

Where are you guys located in the Byron area?

  • Correct! lol

  • Look into the 98-early 99 MTX. They have shorter gear ratios and are a bit stronger than the 99.5-up.

  • 3rd gear in my 99.5 zx2 is the best gear. It accelerates the fastest in that gear for me.

  • the escort zx2 s/r edition only came out in 1999 and 2000 models

  • hey how do i know my 98 escort zetec is an s/r?

  • @Dragonsblade07 its not a mazda engine, it is from Ford of Europe. if im not mistaken they have a mazda tranny and chassis but not the engine. and its Zetec. they also respond very well with a turbo ;)

  • @boneskiss agreed i had a 98 ZX2 S/R and it was nothing to whip a SI's ass. The driver sux in this vid not the ZX2.

  • Silly Ford!

  • Its all about your 60ft times man. I have an 88 Ford Escort Gt. ran a 16.7 @ 80mph. Our 60ft times were the same.. If you get some Drag radials, then you can prolly get down to a 1.9 or 2.0 60ft time, which will get you into the 15's.

  • @Dragonsblade07 Wow. First of all It's Zetec, not Z TEC. Secondly It's NOT a Mazda engine... at all. Mazda gear box yes, Mazda chassis mainly. But the engine is from Ford of Europe. Not Mazda whatsoever. Vtec and Zetec are not the same thing. VTEC is a name for Hondas VCT system and Zetec is a name brand for a whole line of Ford engines and not all of them even have any VCT. The ZX2 engine has VCT but only on exhaust cam. Vtec on modern Honda is electronic and has VCT on both cams.
