There are 7 species of sea turtles and they all make their nest on the beach with about 150 to 200 eggs. The incubation takes about 2 months. But there is NO beach left for them to lay their eggs and the rebuilding of the beaches each day with 100's of dump trucks of sand up and down the Florida coastline would bury and crush their eggs for sure. And not to mention the pollution from the building on the coastline and cannot be good either. We the commercial fishermen are not to be blamed any more. The so called conservation groups like the cca have made stopping the commercial fishing into a big money making business with the donations from the public that does not know what is really going on and from government grants for their bad data on the fish. DO NOT believe all their lies about the sea life and the commercial fishermen we are NOT the problem at all. Please read my channel info.

  • Agreed, land development !!!!!

PS. I saw hundreds of sea turtles floating dead last year in cape Hatteras due to rapid declination of sea temperature. They surfaced to sun, but the cold water and temp was too much. Mybe even a thousand died, don't know, ? I saw hundreds myself though ! Not a big deal since it was natural mortality ! One dead from a net and there is a closure !

  • Thats crazy. I have commercial fished all my life and I have never killed any sea turtles but we do see alot of them a times

  • The biggest reason for sea turtle decline is land developement on the coast .The biggest reason for loss of red fish sea trout and flounder is also the same reason . Land developement on the coastlines . Not to forget the lack of fresh water being released to the bays . Commercial fishermen have low impact as well as the average angler such as myself.......

  • So true Thank you

  • Thanks for message. Building on the beach, spewing junk in the sea, selfish consumption and gratification cannot maintain balance. Thanks to those who care about real issues.

  • Thank you the real sad thing that the commercial fishermen that goes long line fishing for grouper in water over 300feet will be close for 5 months or longer in the effort the save the sea turtles but again is just to strave out the commercial fishermen at every chance its never about the real issues at all, When will this madness end

  • Ive been fishing flounder nets in the summer for 23 years and smallmesh setnets all my life. My ancestors have fished setnets in the same area of the pamlico for 300 years. There are still plenty of fish and plenty of seaturtles. I was fishing when they put a quota on red drum they said there was none but those years there was record amounts. In short they lied

  • the new ncdmf rule of no flounder nets during the summer will ruin what is left of my commercial fishing career as well as that of many others i know. They say its about sea turtles but if it was why dont they put observers on our boats like they do in the fall. It is because the sport fisherman, kite surfers, wind surfers all want us gone so they can play.

  • Ive never caught one either

  • hey allen saw the longline comment. NCDMF has a new proposal here. no flounder nets in the water from june 1 thru sept 1. save the turtles and red drum i suppose.they say flounder populations are down too. real reason is these are the three months in which rec. fishermen do most of their fishing. want us out of their way. also too many complaints about us catchin up the red drum.
