@theoriginalbadbob It's a bit too busy for my liking and perhaps a bit too loud in the mix. I love Rick's rendition of the song but the piano, for me, is stepping on him too much.

It's not Dylan, but it's the best rendition I've found on YouTube since most of Bob's originals were removed several months ago. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful, haunting. He was one of the best.

ricky recorded some really great songs and this a good attempt at this one ,but if you want the best you need to listen to the walker brothers singing this one

I once had no less than Gordon Lightfoot tell me a song means what YOU think it means at the time you hear it. Which means, I think, that if it's a really good song it means something different every time you hear it. This is a Dylan song with which I was not familiar...and, @theoriginalbob, if I wanted to click the 'Thumb Down' button, I wouldn't hesitate.

@dllewiszz I know next to nothing about musical theory, but I know what I like. The piano, on this recording, is magnificently beautiful, but it isn't playing the "right" notes. Is that called playing in a minor key? Also, I'm pretty sure the song is about love.

@theoriginalbadbob I've read a few analyses of the song and have reached some of the same conclusions as others when I've dug into it. It's pretty deep for a guy as young as Dylan at the time. Turley Richards covered it pretty nicely too.

@dllewiszz Omit a verse, add a new verse, so what? The song still wouldn't make any sense. Be that as it may, I LOVE this song and I LOVE Ricky's version of it. I've loved it since Dylan first recorded it, I've seen him sing it in person, I was born on Ricky Nelson's second birthday, and my name is Rick, but, try as I may, I still can't understand what the hell the song is "about." A careful reading of the lyrics is of no help. I just enjoy, very much, listening to it.
If anyone is even THINKING of clicking the "Thumb Down" thingee, pay attention to this: I have installed spyware on this video, I will find out who you are, I will track you down, and I will kill you, if you click it.

Dylan's songs are like the ocean, carrying great majestic ships full of songs to destinations so everyone may profit.
