Bear Grylls almost needs no introduction. The English writer and adventurer was once a member of British Special Forces and the youngest man to ever climb Mount Everest. He received his love of climbing from his father, a former Royal Marine.

There is. They are portraying him as a "Master of Movement". The fact that they are portraying him as such without him actually climbing is insulting if you are a rock climber. Watching him do this makes me cringe. 2 Cams? Mock lead on a 20 ft rope while trying to hide the top rope in a crack?

Try to imagine if Bear Grylls did this in another activity/sport. It would be analogous to Bear Grylls the master skydiver jumping out of an airplane (except attached tandem to an instructor).

I'm no master at alpinism but what exactly is wrong with watching some video games casting and listening to metal?

I missed that part where you said you can't compare Everest to Grylls...still can't find it, in fact...not that it matters.

Cool that you are 'quite experienced in alpinism', I figured you were too young. I didn't realize that people over the age of 16 still obsessed about video games and metal.

Well, while I'm no professional mountaineer, I am quite experienced in alpinism. And yes, I do know that Grylls is a joke, that is why I said that you can't compare Everest to Grylls...

And well, Everest is impressive, yes. But for me, Matterhorn is far more impressive... Especially it's north face.

And Steve Kardynal... Well, he's kinda a youtube "comedian", I guess. Pretty cool guy just not as famous as he should be.

    Oh, I get it: you're a literalist.

You don't know me, but the idea of you trying to explain to me about people dying during mountaineering pursuits is pretty ironic.

I know you don't understand this, but to folks who are and who have been involved in mountaineering professionally, Grylls is a bit of a joke.

Of course Everest is 'impressive', it's Everest. I am most impressed by the amount of money people will pay to be escorted up. The wait is as impressive as the 'climb'.

    Steve Kardynal?

Sorry, I have to argue that... Several hundreds of people dies trying to reach the top of Everest, they still do. Grylls is just promoting himself in the same way Steve Kardynal does, except for the difference that Grylls has a huge TV company behind him.

true. wrong choice of words, perhaps. but, in comparison to Gryll's gift of self-promotion...it's not that impressive. better?

Ok, ok, I'll just have to stop and comment on Everest. While lately it became very amateur friendly, try ascending it on some rout that isn't secured for commercial reasons and you will understand that it is, indeed, impressive.
