I built a 2-stage Estes CC Express Model Rocket and this is its first flight as seen using a Boostervision digital video camera mounted to the sustainer stage. The rocket was flown on October 12, 2009 in Eugene, Oregon using a D12-0 engine for the booster stage and the sustainer stage was modified to hold a E9-6 engine. The unstable spin is due to a slight flaw in one of the sustainer stage fins. Recovery was made by the use of a 16" nylon parachute and a 3"X3" Nomex blanket as wadding.

  • It had an 16" Sunward chute with a 4" Nomex wadding. I used a D12-0 to a E9-6 for engines. I modified the sustainer motor tube by moving the forward ring forward by one inch so that it can accomodate the E size engine. A 1" spacer made of a 1" piece of an E engine tube can be used as a spacer so that smaller size motors can be flown.
