This is a Red Chinese plasticized KA, only superficially like the Hobart American-made ones for decades. It figures that a foreigner wouldn't know the difference-

@supercooled That "straining" sound you are hearing comes most likely from the gearbox in the kitchenaid. The motor itself probably isn't under strain, but the motor has to have gear reduction to lower the rpm's and increase it's torque. Gear boxes are pretty noisy used in the majority of applications. The motor is fine though.

@ynftki2005 : I use rapid rise yeast and it is recommended to mix it with flour. You dont even need to make the dough rise.....just shape and let rise for once and bake :) They even come with name "bread machine yeast".

Only use the dough hook on speed 2, as per the instruction manual! Otherwise, you'll ruin the motor quickly!

you don't put flour in with yeast to make it rise and you don't stir you let is tand for 10 minutes. before putting into the flour.

@Blingadore well if the hook can pick up the dough, the dough would just go for a ride and not get kneaded.
Its ok for a dough to be sticky and to stick a bit to the button, nothing wrong with that, and it will still form gluten net sufficiently .
I guess the next invention would be a Teflon coated bowls :P

i'm not sure i would be satisfied by the way the dough hook doesn't pick the dough up from the bottom of the bowl. after loosening the ball of dough by hand, and sprinkling a liberal amount of dry flour underneath it, the hook seemed to be kneading the entire mass again. but after the next edit cut you could see that the dough was stuck to the bottom, again.

I got a Kenwood Major KM020 for my birthday and would like to know if you are planning to do a review on the KM020 as well, as I would like to see how it compares with the KitchenAid and the Quinsinart. Personally I think it is a brilliant machine. Please check it out.
The motor sounds strained. I've never owned a stand mixer before but playing it by ear, it just doesn't sound very confident. Is there much of a difference between this 5 QT model and their 6 QT model which has a rating of 575 Watt motor. There is also a 325 Watt model. Anyway, I would like to hear from those who know as I'm a budding baker and cooker.

@supercooled
This model has plenty of motor power. Not strained at all.
