Exactly as stated - this is the "Eden" interface ported over to the Viewsonic Gtablet. Enjoy my lame video attempt.

Currently at alpha 5, everything works (Camera just got fixed). Still feels a bit buggy, but we don't know if that's the mod or the original firmware (I don't own a NIA to compare it with). Rooted, Market, ad-hoc networking and CIFS also added. As always a big THANK you to the devs at XDA!

For more information, please look for us over at xdadevelopers.com.

Music reference: "Apartment Story" by The National, and "Castaways" by Shearwater. Great bands -- please support them if you like them!

  • I stink at making videos, but I do add the soft sell on things I like - music, movies and TV shows. My new mods over in Slatedroid are now titled after songs I like. :)

  • The worst angle is in landscape, when you tilt it down. the screen is solarized, similar to what happens on a netbook screen.

The "Eden" UI is basically Froyo (2.2) with alterations. It's essentially a different launcher (like a different "Explorer", in the Windows world). But under-the-hood it's Android 2.2.

And no Windows, that's correct. It has an ARM processor which Windows does not support yet. However, Linux will run on it and there is development going on in that area.

  • Getting my first tablet in a few days, a Viewsonic G Tablet. Does the Notion Ink ROM a replace the OS (Android 2.2) it comes with? I'm afrad I don't know much about tablets. I'm also guessing I'm not going to be able to install Windows on the thing.

  • @gigantibyte : yes, it's an alternate firmware. You can bounce back and forth between stock and the Adam mod, if you want to. They have their pros and cons. There are also more alternate firmware mods on XDA.

The GTablet is a nice low cost alternative to devices like the Xoom. My only complaint is the screen angles, but some people don't care much about that.

Definitely no Windows (ARM processor, which Windows does not support yet). But Ubuntu development is going on.

  • Just make sure you flash back to stock, if you plan to return it. Check the xda site for the location of the stock ROM's. You don't want the next guy to be scratching his head as to why his GTablet says "Adam" on it. :)

  • 45 seconds is about right, even on stock GTAB or other mods.

cnn test was a Flash test.

As for music vs vocal cords, music always wins. Or maybe I have a heavy accent or a speech impediment.... :)

  • The best review of Notion Ink Adam so far ^^

  • The National AND Shearwater? You've got some good musical taste.

  • Great Video, and i see you we're watching the IT Crowd. You are a legend

  • @roebeet Thanks for your reply. With it and more research I have a better understanding of the device. I was kinda hoping for netbook without the keyboard, but it's more like a cell phone with a large screen minus the phone. It should serve my purposes as a glorified eReader. Are the screen angles worse in landscape or portrait mode (assuming it has portrait mode...)?

  • Nice vid roebeet! I like the adams settings menu looks sweet, might have to give it a try!

  • lol mr roebeet shows up again. You tube recommended this video to me.

    its "damian j" here.

you made quite a name for yourself :) good work, i remember this rom very well lol
