How To: G1 Lanyard Fix - Put A Lanyard Strap On Your T-Mobile Phone

The G1 phone does NOT have a lanyard hole. I need one because I walk around San Francisco a lot and it's easy to drop the phone. So as typical, I looked for a solution.

I found a way to attach a lanyard, through the phone's speaker grill.

Take a look.

Sidenote: I don't know about anyone else, but to me the G1 is slippery as heck. One needs a lanyard on it, whether it's clipped to your belt or you are using it. If you have a spare camera strap, you can use that on the phone. So this is a low cost solution.

great idea, i love to have straps and lanyards on everything i have in my numerous belt pockets ;-)

isnt the battery cover likely to come off rel easy if you pull hard on the lanyard or drop the phone?

@maethorize ... you would have to pull really hard for the cover to fly off. And it the phone is in a case it is totally secure on the strap.

The install is worth the hassle.

For example, see my G1 video shot on the Golden Gate Bridge. At one point I was holding the phone over the bridge railing.

It was windy and the phone was its typical slippery self. (The G1 has a great feel, but the surface texture is smooth and slippery.)

Also, when pressing the keys it's easy to lose a grip on the G1.

When I shot that video I was for sure using my lanyard lest my G1 romantically fall into Golden Gate Bridge water.

Great video, I've been looking for a hot minute, still don't understand why they feel that a touch screen smartphone wouldn't NEED a lanyard hole.

P.S. I don't think guys with lanyards are nerds, or maybe that's cause imma female looking for a lanyard also.
