Shovewood 1.11 Court Martial part one

Escape Committee Bulletin
Pat Grant is played by Edward Hardwicke, who you may remember as an excellent Watson to Jeremy Brett's Holmes. If you are a Holmes fan may we recommend this video as a method of escape

Edward Hardwicke should not be confused with Edwin Chadwick- a proponent of the poor laws and public health issues in the 19th Century. A member of the escape committee once made this mistake in a history tutorial but luckily she got away with it. We may not be so fortunate next time and frankly it reflects badly on us all.

Our contacts reliably inform us that Chadwick's younger half-brother is American baseball journalist Henry Chadwicke dubbed the 'Father of Baseball' which will become relevant in part four with a conversation about bunting. So we hope you're taking notes

  • I can't believe I never knew this show existed, being a fan of both David McCallum and Robert Wagner. Ahhh...it's nice to find buried treasure!

  • oooo Sunny I believe you may be one of us *claps hands excitedly* I hope you have fun playing.

Sadly this series was never broadcast in america it being deemed "too classy" by the networks. It is considered one of the stalwarts of british drama and there are two spin off series.

  • That may explain why I've never heard of it. I've only been watching classic movies and TV since I was about 12 or 13, so I haven't had time to discover all the wonderful things available yet.

I do have a terrible confession to make though...I'm of nearly pure German descent. I even had a Great-Uncle that was a Nazi. However, I utterly reject the ways of my ancestors and would never throw a certain blonde into solitary.

  • well, that makes you around the same level of germaness as Queen Elizabeth II so I wouldnt be too worried - and it is highly likely her Uncle ie the ex-King was a nazi sympathizer.

This series actually probably has one of the fairest, most accurate portrayals of the german army. Theyre not just stereotypical baddies of the Indiana Jones kind. Which in a way makes it scarier- them just being normal decent people- It could happen to anybody.

  • Yay, I`ll become a doctor at once if that means I`ll have the chance to say things like " Get off your clothes! " and " Take off your shirt! " to McCallum....

  • @Shovewood What were the two spin-off series, may I ask?

  • thnx for the uploads mate!its currently on the yesterday channel but ive missed some episodes so its good to get them on here!

  • Oh and we have poppies (one poor child at a school the escape officer helps out at thought you had to buy a fresh poppy every day- she kindly pointed out they were paper- though actually the Legion would make more money that way : )

  • Yes today is Rememberence Day over here and it actually covers everybody killed in wars since 1914 though this year has seemed to focus specifically on World War One due to the 90th Anniversy. The Escape Committee has trawled through their personal collections and uploaded something that goes some small and insignificant way to marking it.

  • This isn't WWI, but I am watching this on the American Holiday "Veteran's Day". I understand that's Armistice Day in the UK. I salute all those brave men and women who have and will fight for our freedom.
