How Do I Stay Organized Using RefWorks?
Are you working on multiple assignments? Do you need a way to keep your citations and annotations organized? RefWorks is a great way to keep all of your research in one spot! In the previous RefWorks tutorials you learned how to set up an account and import citations. In this video I'll show you how to keep your RefWorks account neat and tidy.
To find RefWorks go the UW Libraries homepage at www.lib.washington.edu. Then click on Citation Guides & Tools, under Library Tools.
One of the great features of RefWorks is the Create Folders option, which allows you to organize citations by class, project, or whatever else you want. To make a new folder click on the Folders tab and then create New Folder, for example I'll name this one English 350. Now when I import a new citation I can directly select English 350 to keep all my sources in one spot. To view all of your folders, click View under Folders. If you need to rename or delete a folder simply click on Organize Folders.
Let's say you imported a lot of citations before making a folder. Simply click on Folders, then View, and then References Not in a Folder. From here you can move the references into your various folders. Under the View option you can look at the last references you imported and the ones you have deleted. You can also view duplicate references by clicking on View and then Duplicates, which can help you sort through and delete any unwanted duplicates.
If you are working in a group you can even share folders with your group mates. Simply click on Folders, and then Share Folders. If you click on the share button next to the folder, it will provide you with a URL to give to your group members.
To create a bibliography using references from a specific folder, click on Bibliography and then select the folder you want to use from the drop down menu. To learn more about creating bibliographies take a look at the "How Do I Manage Citations with RefWorks?" tutorial, on the UW Libraries' "How Do I...?" Page.
For more information on staying organized with RefWorks, click on the 'Ask Us!" link on the UW Libraries Homepage to email, text, or chat with a librarian!
