She tried to open the tank because that was her best chance of disabling it. She didn't have the equipment or firepower to destroy the sensors or anything - only her bare hands, by the end.

I had watched zero anime before this film. The day after I saw it, I watched the sequel. Gotta say the animation is so much better here it's not even funny. Innocence has weird, clean surfaces and sterile 3D backgrounds everywhere, this has a warm, deep, detailed look throughout.

Best watched subtitled - the dub throws away meaningful dialog as "too philosophical" and replaces it with swearing to "sound cool".

This is one of the most memorable movie scenes of all time. It's so strangely beautiful, yet raw and visceral.

2 things that I love about anime from the 90's: 1. The slick look of the hand drawn animation and the 3D effects (spider tank for reference). 2. The awesome sound effects( bullet bounce effects, explosions, and the movements of mechas and robots)

Throughout the entire movie she expresses existential angst and confusion, and here she has the opportunity to hear the thoughts of another sentient being just brought into existence. She is desperate for answers, and it seems kind of symbolic of the lengths people will go to to find answers that we don't have. Some people turn to religion because they can't handle the thought of simply not knowing why they are here. That moment is extremely profound to me.
