@Gemini730 Dear Gemini,
You're ABSOLUTELY CORRECT; in my previous comment, "Bill made women feel special by showing a genuine interest in them as a person" should have been incorporated in, for that is a SALIENT aspect of his PERSON from what I've gathered reading his biography - THANK YOU. More, later.
Take care,
{(iGBi)} and KIMY

Women loved Bill because he made them feel special by showing a genuine interest in them as a person-not just a sex object. Lorraine

great acting by the two actors,
on stage they did not really like each other,the late holden was a ladies man,
and the late jones married a wealthy man n retired

There's a reason this movie was so popular in 1955. First were the performances by Holden and Jones and secondly, was the theme which I believe won an OSCAR for best theme song. I was born in 1953 and first saw this movie on TV as a matinee in the 1960s as a young boy. I was immediately entranced by the story and the music. I later came to appreciate many love stories like this one and later LOVE STORY and SOMEWHERE IN TIME.
I agree, this movie should NEVER be remade.

@DedicatedToSomeone William Holden was not a "womanizer."
He was FULL of love for WOMEN in general, especially HIS WIFE, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Capucine, Stephanie Powers, Pat Stauffer; he was very nice to all of the women he'd loved till his dying day. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE; HE COULDN'T HELP BUT LOVE-- if only all other men were like him.
God forbid they every re-make this classic!! No one could replace Holden and Jones - and they'd spoil it by putting sex into it !!

The hospital scene at the beginning was shot at 41 Conduit Road, Hong Kong. It was then a Chinese millionaire's house. Demolished in the early 70's to make way for a high rise apartment complex called Realty Gardens ( I lived there for 7 years). Believe it or not, the little green pagoda on the hillside is still standing at Realty Gardens beside the swimming pool. You should read the autobiographical novel "A Many-Splendoured Thing" by Han Suyin. It is a true story!
