Officer suspended for Illegal arrest of MN C.H.A.N.G.E Member

The Wahpeton Police officer who arrested a teen who was videotaping him earlier this month has been suspended.

Officer Dustin Hill has been suspended for five days without pay beginning May 13. He will also be required to take forty hours of remedial law enforcement training with an emphasis on Wahpeton municipal ordinances, the North Dakota Century Code, and the Constitutional law. He has been notified that any future incidents of a similar nature will lead to his termination.

Officer Hill fell under fire after he arrested 17-year-old Robert Wanek for interfering with a police investigation after the teen approached him with a video camera. That video went viral and drew a lot of attention to the case. Wanek was released after half an hour after Officer Hill's supervisor determined there was not sufficient probable cause for the arrest.

All it cost this cop was his coffee & donuts for a couple weeks. These & all officers need to take a COURSE IN ANGER MANAGEMENT!! They also need to learn that the badge on them is paid for by all of us in taxes & to treat everyone in the public equally. They need to be forced to watch some Andy Griffith shows that would teach them to have their facts straight first. Thats how cops used to be now they're just going to pot w/no moral in life thinking they're above everyone & they're not.

Whooh, he should loose his job for Good just like Officer Rick Crown should on False Arrest Dawson County NE. This special training IS A STEP FORWARD but just a brush of punishment for THEY SHOULD BE CANNED 4 GOOD! On the way home today from the Doctor I heard of an arrest of another officer in NE for improper sexual moves on 2 girls he babysat, do these officers think they are above everyone?? WELL YOU AS OFFICERS ARE NOT, in fact I think more officers are filthy people for they have thebenefit

@ct92404 Wrong. Not only should the maniac no longer be a cop, the violent gangmember behind a badge should be in prison for aggravated kidnapping. The scumbag received no punishment at all. That cop should have died on the spót the moment he attempted to kidnap the citizen. If the citizen was able, as I suggest all citizens should be, the felon behind a badge would be dead.

Actually, it was an UNPAID suspension. And he was also required to take training in Constitutional law, and he was told that if there were any more incidents like this, he would be fired. Usually, cops get away with way too much, but at least this time this cop did get some kind of a real punishment. Ideally, he should have been fired. But losing almost a week of pay and being forced to go to remedial training is better than nothing.

Illegal arrest. In this state it's called Kidnapping. Doing with a visible weapon is called aggravated kidnapping. All this cop got was a five day paid vacation. This is why I advocate open carry and the obligation of all good citizens to ensure that our firearms training far exceeds that of any cop. Any cop who tries to kidnap an armed and able citizen wll die as he deserves to.

the cop should be suspended for 6 months if he doesnt know the law or how to respect citizens. he should also be sued for unlawful arrest and the county should be sued.

There should be a 3 strikes rule for cops imo... im not out to crucify anyone..

Being a cop is not for everyone.. many of them should be in other jobs.
