Some of the best Wirral's pubs are now closed boarded up and derelict. This is a sign of the times as people stay in more due to the rising cost of a pint and the smoking ban.Its sad to see some of these grand building's all boarded up.
Here are a few of Wirral's finest pubs as they are now.Its a shame to see them like this. Some great building's as well going to rack an ruin. These venues will never open again as pubs changing part of the British way of life forever.

  • So sad that all these great pubs are gone.

  • Saw the Woodside hotel on fire from The Albert Dock in Liverpool.

  • There were so many pubs opened at least 5 on a street years ago you cant keep that up, jobs have been lost communities have dissapeared and a lot of the regulars that kept these pubs opened are dead. So its no surprise that many are closing. Personaly I am glad maybe years ago pubs near homes was ok but drunken yobs now getting pissed in areas where there are homes aint a good idea.

  • I played darts in the 50's & 60's in a lot of the Birkenhead pubs. Seeing the Livingstone closed, brings back it's opening. As a young man my local was the Bank of Ireland in Beckwith Street. It was after 'The Bank' was closed the Livingstone opened. Now that's gone. Wonderful memories, wonderful video, thank you

  • The Observatory has been closed and re-opened several times in the last 5 years. The last time was in 2009 but sadly it remained open for only a few short months before closing again. The Westbourne has now been converted into flats. Meanwhile another famous Birkenhead hostelry "The Dock" on Park Street has been closed for around 12 months and unfortunately caught fire and was severely damaged just after Christmas.

  • I'm birkenhead born and raised and this video breaks my heart. Had many a good time in a lot of these pubs. The music fits it perfectly and editing is superb. Thanks for putting this together, we've lost a lot of local history but a least we have this visual memory of what once was.

  • @jbwaasup you are totally right! I used to work there! Happy days! :)

  • I think it is part of losing the whole working class communities that were in Birkenhead before the loss of jobs and industry in the area.

  • IS THIS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM?

  • I used to splash down in the Pacific nearly every weekend and make music with the legendary "Jimmy "Sommertime" Stevens" Oh memories lost forever!
