Jax is a juvenile male bottlenose dolphin who was rescued in March 2007 from the St.Johns River in Jacksonville, FL. He was believed to be around 8 months old and was a probable victim of both a shark attack and a possible boat collision. He is missing half oh his dorsal fin, part of his right fluke and a portion of his right pectoral fin. He was declared unreleasable by NOAA Fisheries because he was too young to survive on his own and was already in a compromised state due to his injuries and condition. After spending 10 months of rehabilitation at Gulf World in Panama City, FL, Jax was moved to Dolphin Research Center in January 2008. There, he was adopted by an adult female dolphin named Tursi and her calf Gypsi. Today, Jax is a daring, fun-loving fellow who enjoys people-watching and playing with his toys and adopted family.
