Pictures I took in Yamba - Tanzania while volunteering as a builder. Ended up doing lots of other things as well, best part of my life so far. I met so many cool folks from other parts of the world, got lots of new friends including locals from the project and Tanga town.

The United Republic of Tanzania (Swahili: Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania), is a sovereign state in central East Africa bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south. The country's eastern borders lie on the Indian Ocean.
The United Republic of Tanzania is a unitary republic composed of 26 mkoa (regions). The current head of state is President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, elected in 2005. Since 1996, the capital of Tanzania has been Dodoma, where government offices are located. Between independence and 1996 the major coastal city of Dar es Salaam had been the country's political capital. Today Dar es Salaam remains the principal commercial city of Tanzania, and is the major seaport for the country and its landlocked neighbours.
The name Tanzania is a portmanteau of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. The two states united in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which later the same year was renamed the United Republic of Tanzania.

  • I went here back in July/August 08. Making a documentary series about the whole expedition in Tanzania, and gonna put some footage up about this place. I didn't like it much at the time (the village part), but looking back, it was a wonderful experience, and fantastic setting in the Usambara mountains! Thanks for putting this up. I think it is a good thing that we should spread the word about Yamba. I'll send you a link when it is ready if you like. :)

  • Brilliant, cant wait :)

  • Thanks, the song is called "Baba Yetu". =)
