what I find quite interesting is that in this territory they are fighting while at the same time, in neighbouring territories they prefer to live "harmoniously"

Could you describe the setup for those that may appreciate replicating this. Mutant strain if any? Food? Etc...

Been working with Drosophila for a year now... never knew they could get aggressive!
ajmccart, i think Dr. Dierick's work is really interesting and I would liek to use his work in an experiment maybe...ajmccart can u suggest some readings and articles that can help me develop a strong knowledge base for learnign about aggressiveness in fruit flies please??

I'd suggest going to pubmed . com, searching "Dierick HA" and looking up Dr. Dierick's most recent papers. He references all of the papers he considers important for his work. I assume you have access to journal articles, if not let me know.

They fight for the territory. Perhaps the territory is important because this is their food, as well as where females lay eggs . . .
