Warning: This will make you hate your life. LOL

It takes half a semester to learn how to make a bustier correctly. I did skip a few steps that are typically used in making a bustier. Since a majority of you guys aren't hard core with the sewing, I watered it down a bit.

Fabric:
Fashion Fabric-I am using a heavier cotton woven. It's printed, looks dark and I didn't want to buy more fabric. I used what I had. (I have used this one before to make the pillow case here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL6xZU0kz14&feature=results_main&playn...list=PLB8435B515587BC1C)
Lining: Cotton suit fabric (like a khaki fabric). Normally you'll have a canvas/horse hair layer. I didn't want to go through that step so I just used a heavier fabric for lining to give it body.
-You'll need about 1/2 a yd of each fabrics.

Bustier Pattern: For it to come out accurately you must save the file and print it out on standard U.S letter paper that is 8.5 X 11 inches. MAKE SURE that if your printer asks, you should print so that fits the paper and not fit to scale. The pattern is made to fit me which is a French size 6 and US size 2. You can tweak the pattern a bit by playing with the side seams to make it fit you a bit better.

Things to keep in mind:
-The pattern has 1/4" allowance.
-I am a size 2, French Mannequin 6. If you are just a few inches larger or smaller than me, decrease/increase the pattern sizes down/up. You might have to draft a few times to make it custom fitted to you. Bustiers fits the body perfectly so you will have to toy with it.
-It's better to use a separating zipper for bustiers (I didn't have time to go out and buy one). It's actually easier to sew the bottom that way.
-How to blind hem stitch: I used this on my circle scarf video. Just scrub to 3:31 and you see how I did it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK_ACEkyMTw
-They sell boning at fabric stores. Ask for them (they usually are covered with a fabric). The specific type I used it called Rigilene boning, it's 3/8" wide. I bought it on ebay in White.

  • when you sew in the boning, won't the thread show on the other side?

  • @nicolesamsonite yes...u can sew the front, the lining, and then do a layer of canvas and have the boning on the canvas....this will give you more shape and hide the boning...or just put the boning on the lining....there are tons of way to do it the "right" way ..good luck!

  • not that hard

  • @1342316ashley well then u are more advance..and I like to keep my beginner sewers in mind!

  • As you might already know, long, tight coats are a trend this time of year. Yet, they can be very expensive. They range from 60 dollars to prices I could never pay. Can you make a video on how to make one??? It would be really useful. Please like so she can see it. thank you! by the way, I love your sewing videos.
