Cherelle Sappleton is a Visual Artist based in London, England who initially studied performing arts with a view to becoming a performer within experimental theatre however after studying Performance and Fine Art jointly at Bath Spa University she began to explore the possibilities in merging the two disciplines and creating a practice which utilised both her performance and visual art skills. After graduating she spent a short time training in Poland with experimental theatre company Gardzienice and assisting in dramaturgical research with theatre director Gareth Somers. Since then she has been involved with Bristol based Live Art group The Wonder Club, artist Fraser Cook as well as working as a photographer on a freelance basis. Cherelle is currently studying Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design where she is extending her practice into Installation. Her multi-disciplinary practice explores the uncanny in the everyday, often using the familiar and twisting it into something that challenges the senses. She is interested in transforming the banal into the unexpected and the effect this has when viewed. By the subverting the familiar she presents an unfixed reality, using what we perceive to be secure she questions the accuracy and authenticity of human perception.
