Major plot spoilers if you haven't seen Serenity.
The song is actually from the Eragon soundtrack, but it fitted Mal so well, I had to use it. I've been a browncoat for a long time now, well before thf ilm came out, but my firefly DVDs are all at home (about 100 miles from where I currently live) so had to make do with just Serenity clips. The lingering shots of River are there because I imagined River singing this to Mal, obviously echoed by Book's insistence that Mal finds something to believe in - "I don't care what you believe. Just believe it, Mal...whatever you believe."
