  • I have a question that maybe one of ya'll can answer. When I listen to current CD version of this album it sounds different. Almost like differnt takes were used.

I know back in the day a number of LP's were mixed for quad channel, and I wonder if the remastered CD used the quad mix instead of the original LP mix? Anyone notice?

  • Not really, it's may depend on the media you use to download.

  • LaMonte--where was this concert where CK walked off the stage? My first concert as a kiddie was seeing Rufus in Buffalo but unfortunately Chaka was all messed up and fell off the stage. I'm pretty sure this was the "Masterjam" tour.

  • In 81' Chaka was definitely soloing and the band was makeshift and amatuerish. This was at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I remember her being so wasted, she slurred the words to "Pappillion". She got into some kind of riff with the people that was in front and she walked off the stage amid cakles and boos. I was embarassed because I made such a big deal out of attending with some girl I was trying to impress. What a time!

  • Yeah--Chaka's drug use was legendary. Have you read her memoirs? She goes into complete detail on every minute of her life prior to hitting it big, but once she hit her peak, there's almost nothing! She told me after a concert one time that she couldn't remember what happened during her peak years! Luckily she pulled it together before it messed up her voice!

  • I love her even more. There is nothing more honorable than being a survivor! We are human beings and those of us who are blessed enough to be able to "tell a story" deserve respect.

  • It always amazed me that Chaka was in her early 20's making this kind of music, so much depth.

  • @MrAlThang right ooooonnnnn

  • @387babycakes right on

  • Mad love to Chaka

  • I packed his bags and 1 year later an angel flew through my bedroom window kissed me on my cheek and he's been here lovng me ever since

  • @cdjblue52 reading your comment made me cry.

  • @2WILDFLOWER I had the honor of playing with CK once. I was sitting in for bassist James Jamerson Jr. I too was amazed at her effortless ability to hit notes most singers would have to slide up into. She truly has been blessed with an instrument uniquely her own.

  • Classic song!! Rufus worked this...memories of Kenwood high school,47th street, the lakefront....with these classic lines "...but the universe is callin' you...you were one of the chosen few....." yesss....."don't let them change you no...they're like theives in the night"....Chicago up in here!!

  • So many from that time didn't make it, including my sister and some dear friends. We didn't know that we were dabbling in death...we were having fun and feeling good. Chaka is one of the survivors, like myself. I've always loved her, but because she is still here and still performing, I love her that much more. I too have holes in my memory, but I still have quite a story that I could tell along with Chaka.
