It's Day 28, the second hive box went on a week ago and the bees have been preparing some queen cells. We scrape these out and add a top feeder. A couple of the ladies express their appreciation by jabbing the sharp ends of their bums into me.

  • @fineshooter Good idea, I plan to try this next season. Basically I was just starting up and didn't have any extra equipment at the time. Cheers

  • why not put the queen cells in another box and add some frames, instead of killing queens?

  • @ducksmasher11 - This was my first season and I had only a single hive without any extra equipment. However, assuming the two new hives make it through the winter, I plan to raise my own queens next spring. Cheers

  • You put the left glove on the right hand!'dx

  • @TheMalthi1 Actually, the "L" on the glove is for "Large" (not left). :)

  • @aceman4564564 Yes I probably could have added a honey super on top that day, but it was still a bit early in the season. When I did add the honey boxes later on, they filled up them really quickly. The bee bearding that you see was mainly because it was a very hot day, and the hive had little ventilation until I removed the entrance reducer, allowing for more air to circulate through the hive. The first time I saw this, I thought they were getting ready to swarm, but they were just too hot.

  • at 2:02 i think one is hatching

  • holy krap wow i would add another box to that one there too massive outside the door

  • Good job getting rid of those queen cells.
