jayz managed to rise to the occasion because of the deaths of Tupac & Biggie..he wasn't really much when they were alive ruling the charts...after their deaths there weren;t many rappers left that were saying anything besides Nas and he's on another level...that left Jay Z a lot of room to make his mark in the hip hop scene..the market was wide open and he dove in and took a bite

For the last 8 years, Jay-Z output has been superior to most mainstream rappers around, except for the not very good Kingdom Come &Blueprint 2. Blueprint 1 was his best, Black Album was amazing, American Gangster & Blueprint 3 were very good,. In 90s when he was just as successful in the mainstream: Res Doubt - Amazing. Lifetime Vol. 1 good. Vol. 2 very good. Vol. 3 & Dynastywere ok. Also think about it, how many rappers know anything about other music genres, let alone work with outsiders?

Linkin Park ? u mean Limp Bisket part due? Another bad decision. Chris Martin ? I don't know anyone listening to that song. What about R.Kelly? What about Ja Rule? forget about that? JZ goes around the world and meets ppl at parties they connect and do projects together - that turn out very average. The road Jay-Z DIDN'T travel in the last 8 years is the one i wanted to hear. His vision of the details of music is elementary. If he was on Music Jeopardy he wouldn't fair well.

If that's the case, Shadowlily, why has he worked with Chris Martin of Coldplay and also Linkin Park?

yea man - on Reasonable Doub he was working with Primo - Mary J Blige - Biggie - etc. Now ? Clowns. that song 'Hate' - it is embarrassing for me to listen to. what kind of flow is that ?? damn near gay if u ask me. I'll stick to Cuban Linx 2.

i feel you. when he came out with Res. Doubt in 96', he had people like source money, Jaz-0, and bleek. artist that wasnt that known. now? he has artist that just selling! and that kills the game.
i loved jay, but this is it...

the song with drake is actually really tight (in my opinion). and have you heard So Ambitious? That's old school sounding in the newer age. And the whole Sinatra thing, it's kinda expected for rappers to think they're amazing, just look past it. And ya he's 40 but he's still working, it's his job to rap and most people don't retire till 65 haha. His music is not regressing, he has a lot of new sounding songs in BP3. but hey you can have an opinion
@Shadowlily21 He evolves with the times. If he sounded the same way he sounded in '96, that would be rediculous. He can't be 40 years old still talkin about the streets and slingin' crack. That doesn't make any sense. Especiall for a guy worth $700 million. No one would buy into that. Throughout his career he's always talked about things that relate to him in that particular time period. In that sense he's definately grown as an artist.
