The Police were an English rock trio, from London, England, formed originally in 1977. The trio consisted of Gordon Sumner, widely known by his stage name of Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar), Andy Summers (guitar, vocals) and Stewart Copeland (drums, vocals, percussion). The band became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first New Wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by jazz, punk and reggae music. Their 1983 album, Synchronicity, was number one in the UK and the US and sold over 8,000,000 copies in the US. The band broke up in 1984, but reunited in early 2007 for a one-off world tour lasting until August 2008, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their hit single "Roxanne" and also, to a lesser extent, that of their formation as a group. The Police have sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, and became the world's highest-earning musicians in 2008, thanks to their reunion tour.

There is no political solution
To our troubled evolution
Have no faith in constitution
There is no bloody revolution

We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

Our so-called leaders speak
With words they try to jail you
The subjugate the meek
But it's the rhetoric of failure
We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

Where does the answer lie?
Living from day to day
If it's something we can't buy
There must be another way

We are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world
Are spirits in the material world

  • I totally forgot about this song until the other day! Legendary

  • Actually my favorite Police song. I want to mix this into a Trance/House track, as the BPM could be perfect for it.

  • @Kingrob30 ya,i did too.lol.it was new too.

  • Love the one drop Reggae bass line...

  • The only police I enjoy to see.

  • @JasonRadley No, but I never said there were. Simply put, if drums were popular in the correct time period for symphonies they'd have them. In fact, orchestras today now incorporate the drum. Now, allow me to ask you, since you are loving on the classical music and ignoring rock, which focuses on both the guitar and drums, neither of which have symphonies. Why are you here?

  • @Stuntinplaya2 Any symphonies for drums?

  • @JasonRadley Drums weren't "popular" in the slightest in the area Beethoven lived, nor in the style of music that was popular. You'd be surprised how much of a general tone drums give music, that aside, @nigelregan, He isn't the best drummer, you should listen to Rush. Neil Peart is easily one of the greatest, if not, THE greatest drummer of all time.

  • Seiously these guys are awesome! they're fucking amazing, but guys please don't diss other music, hip-hop, death metal, pop; what ever it is it still brings someone the same feeling this does. I however like almost all music, from jazz to death metal, from hip-hop to classical.

  • @Kingrob30 im working my record to death in 9th grade now :)
