Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 75528 on a 2008 GMC Acadia. And this installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 87435. All right, looking underneath the vehicle here, the first thing we want to do is, if your vehicle has this rear fascia cover on it, we want to go ahead and remove that. There are two screws on each side here. Just give those a half-turn, pull that right off there. And you can see, this particular vehicle has a dual exhaust, and most models do. The first thing we want to do is to go ahead and lower the exhaust down to get it out of the way. We need to remove the exhaust from two hangers. There is one on the inboard side, and one here on the outboard side as well. And there are going to be two for each one on the exhaust. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and lower those. I would definitely spraying the studs down with some kind of a spray lubricant like a WD-40. It makes the removal of the rubber hanger a lot easier. Before we release the hangers on the other side, I am going to use a basic tow strap here. I am going to support the exhaust where it merges, because when you lower a both sides of the exhaust, the exhaust will want to fall down, and it may damage your exhaust. So putting the support strap in there will keep it from doing so.
And with the exhaust lowered down, we are taking a look at the passengers side frame rail. And I am going to point out the two mounting holes here at the bottom of the frame. You can see here on the rearmost side there are two weld nuts. And those are available on both sides of the vehicle. We are going to use those for the attaching point to the frame for the trailer hitch. The hardware to go into those weld nuts is provided in the installation kit. And then here also on the bottom side of the bumper, right a little bit forward of where we removed the cover, are two weld nuts as well. And we are going to use those as the bumper mounting points. So, with those mounting positions pointed out, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position.
We are going to secure it with the bolt and the conical-tooth washer that, again, are provided in the installation kit. And we are going to use the same setup for all of the attaching points. We are going to do the ones that attach to the bottom of the frame first, because the mounting locations on the bumper actually need a spacer in between the hitch and the bumper. So we are going to do these first and then go back to that one. I am just going to loosely install these for the time being and come back and tighten down them later. And again, we want to put the spacer that is included in the installation kit, in between the hitch and the bumper at the rearmost attaching point. And with all the fasteners loosely installed, I am going to go through with an air gun or use a hand wrench to tighten them down.
And then we are going to go back through and torque them down to their specified torque ratings. With all the bolts tightened down with the air gun, I am going to go back through and torque them down to their specified torque ratings. And you do want to check with your instructions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. OK, with all the bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we put our exhaust back up. And if you happen to have put a ratchet strap down to support the exhaust, obviously you want to make sure you remove that as well. And with the exhaust back up into place, our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 75528 on a 2008 GMC Acadia.
