Girrrls on a Mission is a performance by young women who participated in a writing workshop given by Screenwriter and Authoress, Josefina Lopez, at the Brava Theater in the Mission District of San Francisco. I was fortunate enough to take the womens' writers workshop with Josefina, also given free of charge, thanks to the Brava Theater and funders. Josefina was an inspiration as a teacher, and writer, the first screenwriter I ever met! As a teacher, Josefina was down to earth, sharing of her understanding of the field of writing, and her practical experience as a writer. Most inspirationally, Josefina took the time to listen to our stories, and motivated us, that with hard work, we could share those stories through writing. At the time, Josefina was writing Hungry Woman in Paris the book is now published! I wanted to give something back to La Maestra, to the Brava Theater and those organizations, and businesses, like Casa Sanchez, that made it possible for us all to access the workshops. The video was shot on my old camera, audio was makeshift. Look forward to new Flor de Miel programming coming out of my new camera, obtained after two years of participating in a small business development program offered by the City of San Francisco which is supportive of small businesses.
