  • @swedishmans...Yes my dad did survive...He was burned over 90 percent of his body by steam...He was the only survivor of the boiler room...His ship was sunk after the battle...His ship was tied up along side of the Yorktown, and was sunk by a Japanese sub trying to sink the Yorktown...My dad lived to be 80 years old...He was only 20 when this happened...He also fought at Aluthien Islands and at Coral Sea before Midway

  • @USMCMICK did he survive`?

  • no luck involved. it was a battle of 2 fairly evenly matched forces. the bulk of the Jap fleet was 600 miles west of Midway. Yamamoto had dispersed his fleet over too many miles of water. essentially, the Japs had 4 carriers along with a few cruisers and destroyers. we had 3 carriers, the planes stationed at Midway, and a few cruisers and destroyers. the only luck was them not expecting us to already be there. for a great read about Midway, pick up 'Shattered Sword' by Parshall/Tully.

  • My dad fought in this battle...He was on thre destroyer mentioned that was sunk

  • Heroes of the Pacific ahh love that gme :)

  • this information is wrong. Japan only had 4 carriers at Midway. The other two were damaged prior to the battle at the Battle of the Coral Sea and unable to use...

  • Also, why did the Hiryu only have 10 torpedo planes to launch at Yorktown when according to the ship's plane roster it carried 21?

  • Has it ever been explained why the Japanese didn't just transfer the pilots and planes of the Shokaku to the Zuikaku and use the Zuikaku at Midway? A fifth carrier might have made all of the difference.

  • midway was a trap. He says at the beginning, the US broke the Japanese codes. The japanese planes flew into a hailstorm of gunfire from the island that they were attacking, and the US fleet that was hiding nearby pounced on their force.

Once the US had air superiority, they bombed the shit out of the huge Japanese naval force.

Thanks for posting this vid, a good history lesson.

  • japs didnt have radar.
