Thailand is a nation of immense beauty, and over 40% of its people subsist on farming. Sometimes, this requires growing rice by hand on steep, rocky slopes. An interdisciplinary Drexel Senior Design team was formed to partner with a local charity in remote Bo Klua. Led by Professors Alexander Moseson and James Tangorra, the team developed ideas with farmers before arriving at a final rice planter concept. The device was designed to double efficiency and greatly reduce the chronic pain of hard labor. Building on the stabbing motion they've used for centuries, the device stores, meters, drills, and drops in one step. More importantly, it's appropriate and sustainable, and our pictorial manual empowers everyone to make and adapt it freely.

The current team will return in June 2012 with a weeder. We would love your financial or other support! Visit http://www.DrexelThaiHarvest.org
