Prof Kevin FU's professional achievements include pointing out the potential security risks of devices such as credit cards and implantable defibrillators. He proved that such technologies are vulnerable to hacking, and inspires technological breakthrough to make modern life safer. Prof FU is named by MIT Technology Review magazine as the 2009 Innovator of the Year. His department chair credits him for anticipating technological trends and his concern for the impact of technology on our everyday lives. As for cooking, Prof FU holds a certificate of achievement in artisanal bread-making. The versatile scientist is also a lover of Latin and the Classics.

Prof Kevin FU talks about how his hobby of bread making influenced his work in computer security research.While having a personal triumphant moment making his "own" sandwich one day, Prof FU was asked by a friend if he had truly make his "own" sandwich. After all, Kevin did not make the bread. That inspired him to make his own bread. The process taught him a lesson: if you are NOT failing, you just haven't tried hard enough.Bread making taught Prof FU how to implement things from scratch, and why or how something works or does not work. This is how he approaches his work and his teaching in computer security.Prof FU discovered that in the US, contactless credit cards have major security flaws. They are like an electronic key that can be duplicated by anyone in just a few seconds without being discovered. Medical devices such as pacemakers also may have major security risks. One could hack such a device, disable the therapy and kill a person. To tackle these problems, FU decided to make his own pacemaker programmer, just like how he made his own bread.Could computer virus could come full circle and cause physical harm to human bodies? Prof FU believes his "why" questions have made him a better baker and a better scientist

傅佳偉教授談了他的興趣──手造麵包—如何影響他在電腦安全領域的研究工作。有一天,傅佳偉教授為做了份"自己的"三文治感到得意洋洋,他朋友卻問他是否願意真正地做一份­"自己的"三文治。畢竟,麵包不是他自己造的。這促使他決定要自己製作麵包。製作麵包的過程中給他上了一課:如果你沒失敗過,說明你還不夠努力。手造麵包教會了傅佳偉教授­如何從一無所有開始,也教會他思考事物是如何運作的,爲什麽有些有用有些沒用。他也用這種態度在電腦安全領域工作和教學。傅佳偉教授發現在美國,遙控信用卡有重大的安全問­題。它們就像電子鎖匙,任何人都可以在幾秒鐘內複製它們,且不被人發現。如起搏器等醫療設備也有很大的安全隱患。黑客可以襲擊這些設備,終止治療甚至殺死病人。為了解決這­些問題,傅佳偉教授決定自己撰寫起搏器程序,就像他自己造麵包一樣。電腦病毒會不會最終傷害人體?傅佳偉教授相信經常問爲什麽,令他成為更好的麵包師和更好的科學家。
