  • @markthenicholson try the difference of drawing your arm bones back with & without the "shrug" and see how it feels in the shoulders-neck. There are more refinements to this instruction that I can't get into on this reply, keep experimenting with how to get your arm bones in the shallow shoulder socket & shoulders on your back. In most classes I call this shrugging, "inner body bright" & refer to it as lifting and swelling inside. It gets your body in good alignment for optimal joint functio

  • @markthenicholson hi, I am sorry that it took me so long to get to this pertinent question. It is helpful to understand the bio-mechanics of the two different instructions and then make a decision yourself. In Anusara, we lenghten the side bodies (side waist/ribs) and lift the upper arm bones to get strain off of the neck muscles, and then be able to draw the upper arm bones back, creating integration in your shoulder sockets. If your side bodies are not long, the arm bones do not go back

  • @VJCowgirl you are more than welcome!
