i understand why people like ultralight backpacking but for me i prefer having a little heavier pack which will be more comfortable, and have heavier bag, mat etc. i think if i have a better nights sleep i have more energy and will be happier, also the more weight you carry the fitter you will get, maybe i'm just old fashioned.
I started out with one titanium pot/cup from Snowpeak and now I have a full ultralight backpack system. Its about 1/3 the weight of my previsous system.
I still use my regular backpack system for short trips and when I am taking someone new (comfort and warmth).
Tinny ive just found you on youtube, and YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome stoves and manufacturing techniques. I am in total awe!!!! All i can say is more more more!!!
I understand your point. But it is not so much weight they are trying to save as money. There is an ultralite alternitive for most things like tents and pads. Henry shire rainbow two --two man 2-1/2 pounds--Neoair mattress under a pound Both very well equipped and comfy.
Great vid, you have a great outlook and philosophy on life. Good luck to you from Bonnie Scotland my friend.

Great vid, but one thing. Freeze drying isn't high-tech or space age. People have been doing it for millenia. In the andes/artic circle.

UL is also a lot easier on our old hips, knees and backs. The whole walk is much more enjoyable if every step doesn't hurt or get paid for later.
