that like comparing mariah carey to madonna. ones sold more records and ones the better singer but the thing that got me diana never got the highest musical award a grammy .
The thing is that Diana can sing but she sings in a sway of cresendo, thats what she is famous for. Patti sangs, she is famous for her powerful c notes that she hits in songs. She is also famous for running up and down the mior and major scale while singing and not getting thrown out of key. She always stays in key. Both are great perfomers but Patti will always sing powerful and louder than Diana due to her taking care of her body, and not drinking and smoking like Diana Does.
Diana exudes warmth, sensuality, class & charisma. I can see why so many worldwide TV specials & events ask her to close their shows. She's got the star power thing down to a science & sheattracts a very diverse audience.
The ridiculous comments posted here provide great examples of why the rest of the music world sees "diva fans" as a bunch of rude, callous, superficial, insecure, overly-effeminate space cadets.
ok and you never know why people go thru things both of them are very talented. trust me diana has just as many fans as patti. i love them both. those were trying times for her with the drinking thing but shes a boss just like patti. they both deserve respect. its unfortunate that diana's personal life gets out more than pattis perhaps becuz she a larger performer. but she will always be a legend...a star! no harm intended but just wanted to say that.
you can say so, she just sold out 2 nights in Holland 2 x 50000, unfortunatly patti didn't sold so many big concerts although she deserved it , but then again no artist is ever asked to sing so many songs on so many important and big tributes... Tribute to diana, michael jackson, frank sinatra, liz taylor, bill clinton, withney, aretha, statue of liberty, live aid, olympics, diva's, nobel peace price concert, destinys child, so in one way Patti is really a big name...:-)
what's more important than who outsang who is that they were many great legends on the stage that night. and sadly many of them are gone now. a moment in time like this will never happen again.
Wow! I never knew Diana Ross remade Foreigner's song "I Wanna Know What Love Is", along with The Commodores, El DeBarge, George Michael, Patti LaBelle and others. I love this song. Also, can you post El DeBarge's "Lonely Teardrops" please?
